Service Overview and Reviews

Protocols: OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP

Service: TorGuard offers a VPN service to anonymize your internet connection via 3000+ servers across 50+ countries including: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, India, Germany, Turkey, Russia, Romania, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore.

P2P/Torrents allowed on servers in Netherlands, Canada, Russia, Romania, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway.

The client software has recently been updated to Viscosity, a feature rich client where you can check the status of your connection, easily switch servers, auto start and reconnect and more.

  • Windows and Mac – “Lite” OpenVPN client (portable version) and Pro Viscosity (most popular)
  • Linux (one of the only fully working linux gui apps we’ve seen)
  • Android – The TorGuard app is available on Google play and is compatible with almost every android 4.0 device. PPTP and L2TP are supported for older devices.
  • iPhone and iPad – For non-jailbroken devices, PPTP and L2TP are supported. For OpenVPN your device must be jailbroken.

Includes easy Torrent Proxy setup software that adds the optimal proxy settings to torrent clients like Deluge, utorrent, Bittorrent and Vuze. The software is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Server status page shows real-time overview of servers where you can check if there’s any known issues and what protocols are available on each server.

TorGuard’s new Stealth VPN service enables you to bypass DPI firewalls and unlock access to/from countries like China, Iran and the UAE.

One particularly handy feature with Torguard is they also allow up to 5 simultaneous connections per VPN account.

TorGuard also offers bittorrent proxy and seedbox options.

Additional Services
DD-WRT Router and Streaming TV box store

Offers a wide variety of DDWRT and Tomato Routers that come pre-configured and ready to “plug and play”.

Anonymous PGP encrypted email service

Privacy: TorGuard does not keep logs of customer activity, store IP’s or time stamps. See their Policy/Terms/FAQ

Coupon / Promo:* We have negotiated a special discount of 50% with TorGuard. Insert the TorGuard promo code bvpn4u50 just before the checkout to receive your discount.

Our Thoughts: We tested the VPN service only and results in our speed tests were decent. If you want to anonymize your torrent downloads this definitely does the job.

The Viscosity software client is slick and very easy to use and we particularly liked the server status details pop-up.

Torguard has been rapidly improving and expanding all aspects of their services, so we expect it to keep getting better over time. We also experienced excellent support responsiveness, and they seem to be very helpful in quickly addressing any issues, concerns, feedback, or technical problems.

The 5 simultaneous connections feature is really a huge and unique plus for many people from a flexibility standpoint, especially given the ever increasing use of mobile devices.

Great provider, I just signed up with torguard and am very happy with my choice.
The support is excellent, and replies to my dumb questions really quickly.. Setup was easy and the speeds are just fine for me. I’m also traveling to hong kong next month and they guaranteed me that the service will work there which is nice. Can’t live without internet!

The big selling point for me was they have an android app so I can use the vpn on my nexus… They allow 5 connections for 1 account so I’ve got my comp, celly and a few other devices hooked up. For the price, you really can’t beat it!

LOL, it seems like the only people that leave a review here are the one’s who aren’t computer literate. I was wary of this provider after reading these reviews, but after giving them a try myself I realize they do need a fair review here. I just signed up for TorGuard (although I missed the blackfriday discount by one hour) and will now leave a real review of this company.

Support: Great, no issues and they reply within an hour. Although they did tell me I wasn’t quick enough on the draw for the black friday sale lol

Speed: They put my previous vpn to shame… While they only offer 30 IP’s, I can get great speeds on all the servers. speedtest shows 9mpbs download rates – thats big improvement over the 3 I was getting with PIA

Reliability: Good. I’ve only tried the openvpn and so far so good – no drops.. I hope it says this way

Protection: Also good, using their openvpn software and found it really easy to install. Your an id10t if you can’t figure it out, and probably shouldn’t be using a vpn anyway.

Price: I only gave a 5 here, because I’d like to see them offer more than 30 vpn servers. They claim to add new servers weekly, that remains to be seen.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with TorGuard and hope the service stays like this for a long while..

Could not get service to work after multiple attempts. Tried to contact customer service and was met by rude people that didnt know anything. I then asked for a refund and finally got one. I was told that I would never be charged again and my account was deactivated. 3 months later I had a charge for $20 appear out of nowhere. I contacted support and they said they would pass it on to the billing person. Nobody has contacted me about the issue and when I try to tell support this they say the person is not there or they will forward the message on. They did not even care that the $20 charge that was not supposed to happen cost me over $50 in bank fees. Stay away from this horrible service and company.

After trying out almost all the servers, my top download speed for the past few days has been .22 Mbps. Upload speed slightly higher. Yep, that’s a dot in front of the 22. Point 22 Mbps. It takes 2 minutes for my email to display. Ridiculous. Very slow speeds

Although I find that the support staff answers my questions quickly(although nothing is resolved), this service is not for non-tech saavy people. I just wanted to hide my internet traffic, I don’t know half the acronyms being used and no clue what most people are talking about, their “Knowledge base” provides almost no information. I would gladly educate myself–but there is no place to do so. Nothing on the web about Torguard, no help for dummies like me, except for this knowledge base, which has no troubleshooting help.

I can no longer use my regular ISP on the PC. Although my wireless laptop does use the ISP (no Torguard on it), my PC won’t recognize that the connection exists and will only give me internet service through Torguard. I don’t want to use Torguard all the time–only when I am downloading. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

    • yes open your ie browser up when it cant find the internet let it search for problem.
it will reconfigure your dns server for your isp then good to go.

I thought I’d chime in since I’ve been reading a few negative comments here.

I just paid my second month’s bill with torguard and am pretty happy. I’m not sure what everyone else is talking about with speed issues, my connection is VERY fast on all the servers I’ve tested. By very fast I mean I pullled 20mbps+ on speedtest.net downloads.

They’re doing it right, I just hope it stays this way!!!!!

I am currently using it, the service has its ups and downs. At times some servers like Canada died for quite sometime while US server was hit by a snail pace.

Now US servers seems to recover, while the ips for Canada servers changed to 4 new ones and guess what couple of days later 2 of the new ones were dead/down.

I would say I liked torguard but they need to make sure to keep issues to minimum.

Also as a p2p capable provider I find it weird that the ports are not open been getting low id fro emule and unable to connect to Kad network.

Confirm previously Canada servers were down and US servers were snail pace.

Seems to be better they add more Canadian servers and fixed US servers. Then few days later another Canadian server went down.

Service at moment is good however with so much ups and downs I hope they have real time status info for members.

    Few things that gripes me.
    1. Network Status page is NOT linked up with any of their servers so you won’t know anything.
    2. P2P support well I can confirm none of their servers seem to have port open? I kept getting low id with emule and cannot connect with KAD Network.

I gave these guys a try after btguard stopped working… I’ve been in the market for a new proxy provider and went ahead and signed up for both the VPN and proxy service to give it a test drive. Here are my pro’s and con’s after one week of using the service:

    VPN Pro’s:
-the torguard OpenVPN windows client is dns leak proof (very useful)
-access about 20 IP’s for openvpn
-very fast speeds, speedtest.net says 35 DL on canada servers

    VPN con’s:
    – only 7 L2TP servers
    – As others here have stated USA servers were a little slow, but not bad

    Proxy Pro’s:
    – they give you access to about 15 static proxy IP’s
    – detailed setup help, and great support

    Proxy Con’s:
    – not as fast as when using VPN only
    – had to use deluge instead of utorrent

The big selling point for me was their support staff… Great support and detailed knowledge base for using their service.

Just signed up for TorGuard, so far I’m really impressed. Setup with their OpenVPN client was really simple, I prefer this over GUI any day…

They’ve got 4 servers in Canada, I’m getting 30mpbs DL rates on these which is faster than any other provider I’ve used. The US servers are a little slow, but not bad. Hopefully they’ll add a few more soon. All together I’ve got access to about 20 IPs, the netherlands and romania servers are also very fast.

Once thing I CAN say is the support is awesome. I’m somewhat of a noob with this and keith walked me through answering all my questions. Torguard has been a good experience for me so far.

At the moment both Canada ips are dead. Both US ips are slower than snail trying to cross the road. Only reasonable speed is UK ip.

Their server status info page isn’t even working.

    What does this tell you?
