Service Overview and Reviews
Protocols: OpenVPN, Wireguard
Service: AirVPN provides OpenVPN with 200+ high performance servers in 20 countries (inc. US, UK, Europe & Asia) with no traffic, time or speed limits.
Anonymity is an absolute priority of AirVPN and it was created and maintained by activists who strongly support Net Neutrality and privacy. IPs are shared and every protocol is welcome, including P2P across their entire network.
AirVPN allows you to do remote port forwarding enhancing the performance of applications like BitTorrent, eMule, and other P2P clients.
They’ve done a top-notch job supporting a wide array of platforms and providing clear and detailed instructions. Supported platforms and configs are Windows, OSX, Linux, Android, IOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod), DD-WRT, Tomato, AsusWRT, pfSense, TOR, and SSH and SSL Tunnels.
AirVPN is also one of the few VPN providers to pull off a smooth and full-fledged Linux client, which is great to see.
If using an Ubuntu distro, see this post for some installation tips.
AirVPN allows customers to access a number of popular geo-restricted services from any server in the world, for example to watch BBC and use BBC iPlayer without having to connect to their UK servers, or access Hulu without having to connect to their USA servers etc.
Every server includes native support of OpenVPN over SSH to finally give full VPN access to customers and users from China and Iran and to bypass OpenVPN traffic shaping performed by some (very rare) Western ISPs. (Fully and successfully tested from Beijing , Shangai and Tehran residential ISPs.)
AirVPN allows up to 5 simultaneous connections (on different servers) per account! Also includes a “killswitch” feature called Network Lock.
AirVPN accepts multiple payment options:-
Paypal, Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, etc) and Amazon pay. Also cryptocurrencies:- Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin cash, Doge and Monero.
Recent major backend system upgrade, which included general hardening of security and anonymity, additional Heartbleed-type vulnerability protections, enhanced cryptography, added TLS-auth layer, etc.
All servers are based on RAM disks for additional security. They perform a minimal boot to bring up the TCP/IP stack, the network and a few essential related services, and then they download all the vital files and keys via network.
IPMI and similar interfaces are never exposed to the Internet for additional security. They are accessible only through a private network.
In addition AirVPN now provides:-
- WireGuard support
- DoH and DoT
- opt-in block lists to stop ads, trackers etc., with powerful flexibility, including options to combine lists and enter customized exceptions and/or additional blocks with wildcard support
- new 10 Gbit/s dedicated lines and servers in Swiss, Sweden and Texas (USA)
- new 10 Gbit/s dedicated lines and servers in Bulgaria and the Netherlands
- rewritten port forwarding system now allows to reserve specific inbound ports to specific devices
- rewritten DDNS system now allows name resolution for specific devices. Therefore it is now possible to have multiple domain names which resolve correctly for each connected device (previously you could have 1 DDNS based name, now you can have a maximum of 20)
Fully compliant with the European Union directives which protect your privacy.
Privacy: AirVPN does not monitor and does not log your activity online. See their Policy/Terms/FAQ
Coupon / Discount:* We have negotiated a special discount of 10% with AirVPN. Insert the AirVPN coupon code bvfu_10 just before the checkout to receive your discount.
Our Thoughts: AirVPN provides an excellent service with great speeds across a wide network. Their privacy policy is one of the strongest and most transparent and they are one of the few VPN Service providers who accept various cryptocurrencies. The client software is both excellent and very easy to use, connections rarely drop and speeds are very fast.

AirVPN is great! Have nothing but praise for them. A little pricier then some competitors, but well worth it.
AIRVPN is in a completely different class!
I’ve used them and a few others but I find myself drawn back to them. They are very reliable and their support staff is very helpful. If you need a VPN I put my trust behind AirVPN.
As of writing this review: They do use LeaseWeb as one of their many providers. This is why I knock down one start for protection. Reliability lately, I’ve been dealing with some issues of DNS leaks, however this is where support comes in. Hands down the BEST support you will EVER use for anything, EVER. I mean, I cannot believe this guys dedication. However, what I’m worried about the long term feasibility of this service. I’m really dependent on it now. I prepaid in bitcoins (when they were at 1200.00 USD/Bitcoin) so I got one hell of a deal. I’m good for several years. Love that feature. So, ok, the speed is consistent. I gladly take a little slowdown for the long-term feasibility. New features are nice. You can have multiple connections on different devices as long as its not the same server. Every platform supported. iOS support is nice, without jailbreak, etc etc etc. Works out the box. dynamic DNS is great.
Remember kids, VPN isn’t 100% protection, its just another layer of security. If you know what you are doing, this is hands down the best VPN option out there. If you are a noob or something, read up on how VPN’s work, etc etc, before you shotgun it.
Finally, from a legal standpoint, AirVPN is the best because they do not keep logs.
Important to note however: the fastest servers, are located in the grey area of transparency (Manassas etc) however, if you follow proper security measures shouldn’t be a problem 😉
Great service, very informative and helpful. Good speeds and solid reliable connections. if you want to be anonymous on the net this is the best VPN out there
I admire their dedication to privacy but AirVPN is an overpriced, mediocre VPN provider.
Speeds are consistent but not great. Frequent drops.
Their VPN client is too basic, extremely buggy and lacks a kill switch.
Allowing only 1 connection at a time is lame. Can’t use your smartphone and laptop at the same time.
They are quick to respond to customer service requests but can be quite indignant at times. I think it’s due to English being their second language.
Very stable ,up and running from last two weeks.
Quite simply the best VPN service available.
I had used 3 to 4 services before discovering Air VPN, and I was not close to satisfied with any of them for various reasons including speed, logging, and customer service. All of these issues do not exist with Air VPN.
It is the fastest service I have tried. If you are new to VPNs, be aware that any service will reduce your speed, but Air VPN does so to a very acceptable degree.
Air VPN does not log, and is publicly very adamant about preserving customer anonymity.
Air VPN’s customer service is probably the best customer service of any company I have dealt with (VPN or otherwise). Even when I have contacted them about very technical questions they have been very responsive, patient, and knowledgeable. I’ll note that I am not saying that standard use of this VPN is difficult to set up, because it is, in fact, very uncomplicated.
Another thing I’ll note is that it’s very useful that they have a broad selection of servers in many different countries (if you pay for the service you have access to all of them, and can choose the country and server, each time you connect).
The only negative experience I’ve had is the service not connecting a few times. I’ve had the service for a year and a half (maybe longer) and it’s only happened 2 or 3 times, for a couple hours each time (not a huge inconvenience). I figure it’s to be expected though as my ISP has issues more often than that. What’s important to me about these events is that during those times they have still been very responsive to concerned customers in their forums. This says quite a bit about their level of commitment to their customers. I still have zero regrets in purchasing the service.
As long as their service and policies remain the same, I don’t foresee ever cancelling my subscription.
After using AirVPN for over 6 months now I can say that it is outstanding! I can’t complain about anything. As you can tell by my rating they are good in every category. I do torrent a lot and AirVPN has never let me down. If you are looking for a VPN provider go with AirVPN!
Tip: If any of you want to use AirVPN on a Mac (like me) AirVPN has a setup guide for Tunnelblick. I could not get it to work. However I did come across a program called Viscosity that takes out all the hassle of setting up Tunnelblick and works flawlessly. The one downside is it is $9. If you can’t get Tunnelblick to work give Viscosity a try!
simply the best vpn ive used. fast reliable connection rarely drops. secure and totally anon
I did a bunch of research and found that AirVPN was the best overall provider. I’m from Canada and couldn’t find any information on whether they had a Canadian server, but I figured there would be ample US servers to connect to. To my surprise after setting everything up, which took less than 10 minutes from going to the site to connecting to their service, I found they did indeed have a Canadian server which is right in my area. The first thing I did was go to speedtest and to my surprise, the average speeds were literally no different. This frequency on my router is limited to 3Mbps as it’s shared amongst many people in a large student house, so note that their service is limited to 4Mbps. Either way, this is more than adequate for browsing, watching youtube ect.
The best part is, AirVPN is completely anon. They don’t keep any logs. You can even register with a fake name and alternate email if you’d like. The main site I was considering was HMA, but after hearing they keep logs of everything for 30days I decided it wasn’t the best route. Despite the site looking relatively basic, don’t hesitate to go with these guys. Their service is definitely what I was looking for.
